DID YOU KNOW
While researching his role in ‘Rounders’ Matt Damon reportedly lost tens of thousands of dollars on poker tables in real casinos? Both Damon and fellow Rounders star Edward Norton were invited to play in the 1998 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas (with a ten thousand dollar buy-in).
Damon was unlucky to be sat at the same table as two-time World Champion, Doyle Brunson. Norton went out early. Around 6pm, he looked down at his ‘hole’ cards and found a pair of Kings, the second-best hand you could be dealt in No-limit Texas Hold’em, the type of poker played in the Championship.
What a Pair
Damon went all-in but unfortunately, Brunson had caught the one-better starting hand — a pair of Aces. Damon may have lost to Brunson but to his credit, and until then, he had survived five hours in the World Championship. Photo Credit: Miramax / PokerTube
