DID YOU KNOW

The Super Nintendo Entertainment System (Super NES) also known in Japan as the Super Famicom was released in 1990 and was a super same-day success with the initial 300,000 units selling out within hours.

The system’s release also attracted the attention of the Yakuza (a transnational organised crime syndicate) leading to Nintendo’s decision to ship the devices at night and thus avoid them being stolen.

Oceanian Release
It took another 2 years (in 1992) before it was released here in Oceania. The SNES and Super Famicom launched with very few games, two initially: ‘Super Mario World‘ and ‘F-Zero‘ — both were well received in the market. A third, ‘Bombuzal‘ was also released and added to the mix. Image Credit: Retromagia
