DID YOU KNOW

Long before the days of Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, Doom, Wolfenstein 3D or Commando a 1975 arcade-shooter game called ‘Gun Fight’ was the first video game to depict a human-on-human shoot ’em up. Known as ‘Western Gun’ in Japan, ‘Gun Fight’ featured two players facing off in an old-fashioned western-style duel.

Got Me!
If you successfully shot the other player, a text bubble popped up above the body exclaiming “GOT ME!” Players had to control two joysticks, one for moving the cowboy around the screen and the other for changing the shooting direction. Obstacles included: a limited supply of six bullets, cactuses and stage coaches. Gun Fight was also the first video game to use a microprocessor in the arcade cabinet.
